ASIA 306: CLASSIC CHINESE NOVELS

This subject introduces students to the five most influential traditional Chinese novels, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Outlaws of the Marsh, Journey to the West, Plum in the Golden Vase, and Story of the Stone. We will read key sections of each in English translation while considering their historical origins, contexts, and transnational cultural impact. Some such manifestations include tattoo, woodblock prints, graphic novels, movies, and video games.
