A course that explores the emergence and consolidation of the English novel and its dynamic relationship to many other 18th-century legacies: the modern individual, capitalism, civil society, the middle class, democracy, and colonialism. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for ENGL 333 if student has credit for ENGL 532.
