HART 307: WOMEN IN ANCIENT ART
Spring 2026 · Section 001 · CRN 24408
This course traces representations of women in ancient art, with case studies drawn from across the globe. We will analyze and compare images of women as goddesses, rulers, priestesses, sex objects, and slaves, and will ask what it means to have power (or not) over one’s own image. Careful consideration will be given to historical and cultural contexts, including mythological and religious traditions, intercultural connections, and changing artistic standards and practices. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for HART 307 if student has credit for HART 549.
