MECH 571: COMPOSITE MATERIALS

Fall 2026 · Section 001 · CRN 16205

Aerospace Composite Structures and Materials focuses on the fabrication, testing, and analysis of composite materials used in flight structures. The course covers basic laminate theory applied to beams, plates, and shells, as well as manufacturing and machining considerations for various types of composites. Key topics include the testing of composites for material properties, strength, and defects. Students will engage in projects that apply these concepts to real-world aerospace applications. Analytical and numerical methods for composite performance assessment will also be emphasized. This course is open to graduate students and senior undergraduate students with a background in solid mechanics and materials science. Recommended Prerequisite(s): MECH 400 or MECH 500
