SOCI 315: CULTURE AND SOCIETY

Spring 2027 · Section 001 · CRN 25661

This course offers an overview of how culture shapes, and is shaped by, social processes, structures, and institutions. We examine different sociological approaches in studying culture and engage with a variety of different topics as they relate to culture, including social reproduction and everyday life, inequality and recognition, identity and collective memory, power and social change. We also study cultural objects – such as music, arts, literature– and explore their relation to social life. The course combines theoretical discussions and empirical research to enable a deeper engagement with culture as an important sociological topic.
