CHBE 408: CHEMICAL PRODUCT DESIGN
Spring 2027 · Section 001 · CRN 26743
Introduction to the systematic design of chemical products whose value depends on composition, formulation, structure, and performance. Topics include identification of customer and user needs, translation of needs into measurable specifications, concept generation and screening, property-function-performance relationships, formulation and property estimation, prototyping and testing, cost, manufacturability, safety, sustainability, and product realization. Students apply structured design methods, engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and selected computational tools in a staged team product-design project. Recommended Prerequisite(s): Familiarity with basic chemical engineering concepts and spreadsheet calculations is helpful but not required for students from other engineering or science disciplines. Mutually Exclusive: Cannot register for CHBE 408 if student has credit for CHBE 508.
