HIST 270
Reformations
In the early 16th century Europe’s social and political fabric began to fray due to a series of transformations in religion. As the Catholic church fractured and new Protestant churches were established, early modern intellectual and cultural life was transformed. This course will explore how this fracture shaped the political, intellectual, and cultural worlds of early modern Europe. In charting a narrative from the late 15th century through the early 18th century the course will further look beyond Europe to explore how these religious transformations shaped global colonization efforts.
