ENGL 111
This course examines the historical and contemporary struggles over what books can be read, taught, and circulated. From banned classics to recent controversies over school curricula and public libraries, the course explores how debates about books reflect broader social and political conflicts. Readings will include theoretical and historical perspectives on censorship, as well as primary texts that have been challenged or suppressed in and beyond the US.
